This case contains:
2 x Messmer Made in Pfalz Weissburgunder Trocken 2019 – Pfalz, Germany
A delicious, approachable Pinot Blanc from the Pfalz region of south-west Germany. Delicately floral with aromas of stone fruit and hints of white spice. It has a generous mouthfeel, with delicious ripe lemon peel characters and a mineral finish.
2 x Montresor ‘Urban Park’ Appassimento 2018 – Veneto, Italy
An appealing appassimento style red from Veneto – produced from classic Amarone and Valpolicella grapes. Bright berry and black cherry aromas, and a touch of spice. The palate has all of Valpolicella’s appealing fresh cherry and ripe bramble fruit, along with added weight and complexity from maturation in oak. Supple tannins lead to a finish of delicate sweetness, offset by fresh acidity.
2 x Strange Bru Fernao Pires 2018 – Western Cape, South Africa
Bright, tangy, textural with a gently fleshy thing, Fernao Pires was planted in ZA decades ago for production as brandy. Strange Bru (the weird brother in Afrikaans) celebrates the charms of a Portuguese cultivar finding its feet in a foreign field.
2 x Quatro Ventos Douro 2019 – Douro, Portugal
Powerful red from the fabled terraced vineyards of Quinta dos Quatro Ventos. Ripe plum, blackberry compote, hints of liquorice and warm spice on the nose, whilst the palate offers dark plum, pepper and spice, and ripe rounded tannins.
2 x Zagare Vermentino, IGT Terre Siciliane 2019 – Sicily
A vibrant and expressive Vermentino from Sicily’s west coast, where many of the vineyards face the sea to benefit from light reflected from the waves. It’s named after the delicate white flower of the lemon tree. Delicate stone fruit aromas with lemony, floral notes. The palate has peach and citrus characters, an appealing texture and weight, fresh acidity and a gently savoury finish.
2 x Domaine Mas Barrau Cabernet Franc, Pays du Gard [Organic] 2019
Cabernet Franc is much under-rated and is rarely cultivated outside its traditional habitats of Bordeaux and the Loire Valley. At Domaine Mas Barrau in the Gard region of Southern Rhône, Boutinot’s Guillaume Letang and Samantha Bailey a have worked together with the family of this organic estate near Nîmes to produce a wine that sets new standards for Cabernet Franc. Textured and luxurious this is a sophisticated Cabernet Franc from Gard. There is a wild ‘after the rain’ woodland perfume. The palate is incredibly long and layered with bramble fruit, bay and a touch of sweet prune on the finish. (Please note that our stock changes all the time so now and then we may have something even more exciting arrive on the shelves which we’ll include in your case as an alternative to one of the wines listed here)
